It is important to know these rules! A. Drivers are responsible to avoid physical contact between cars on the race track. B. Each competitor has a right to racing room, which is generally defined as sufficient space on the marked racing surface that under racing conditions, a driver can maintain control of his car in close quarters. C. Drivers must respect the right of other competitors to racing room. Abrupt changes in direction that impede or affect the path of another car attempting to overtake or pass may be interpreted as an effort to deprive a fellow competitor of the right to racing room. D. The overtaking driver is responsible for the decision to pass another car and to accomplish it safely. The overtaken driver is responsible to be aware that he is being passed and not to impede or block the overtaking car. A driver who does not use his rear view mirror or who appears to be blocking another car attempting to pass may be penalized

Also may want to add that if a car is on racing line in front of you it's not ok to stick your nose on the inside of a corner while he is on the ideal line.

Depends how far into the corner. You could be on the ideal line but had some out braking you which you should leave room for.

Common sense should prevail. I agree that shunting and bashing are abhorent practices. In racing blocking is a well used tactic (to try to slow someone from over-taking). If someone is on a good line in a corner it is also common practice for racers to try and impede this line if possible , causing them to go wide and slow them down. The only time any of these tactics are unacceptable is if the vehicle you are passing has been lapped one or more times , then the lapped vehicle should not impede that faster vehicle and move either to the right or left dependent on the up coming corner. When you look at the different classes then it opens up a whole new world of "contact or no contact", touring cars have been famous for aggressive tactics where as historic racers are too terrified to damage their pristine cars. Take it from someone who spent his formative years at Brands Hatch every weekend and then got his first job working there It has gotten to the stage for me that I get so damn worried about the "Rules", racing should be and has always been a gentlemans battle and should be treated as thus. Hope to get the courage to step back into one of these races soon.
